Nicky Chanel, der unbekannte Engländer

Nicky Chanel hat 1975 eine einzige (?) Single auf Deutsch herausgebracht. Produzent war Roland Schneider. Die Plattenfirma schrieb damals:

"18 Jahre jung. Ein-Mann-Show-verwöhnt, sechs Fernsehsendungen, Auftritte mit Stars wie Ken Dodd, Billy Fury und Hugh Green. Das ist der Steckbrief des in Bristol beheimateten Nicky Chanel, der jetzt seinen deutschen Start in Angriff nimmt: "Sweet Laila"; Text, Musik und Produktion: Roland Schneider, erfolgreicher Produzent (Eckart Kahlhofer, "Polit(hit)parade" u.v.a.). Nickys Debüt-Single ist eine Shuffle-Rock-Numer im alten Stil. Und da er mit 12 Jahren zum ersten Mal zur Gitarre sang, begleitet er sich auf dieser Platte natürlich selbst auf diesem Instrument."

Über diesen erfolgsverwöhnten jungen Mann findet sich leider nichts im Netz. Hat jemand Archivnotizen über ihn?

Und in diesem Augenblick habe ich doch etwas gefunden:

"This is a short biography of Nick Chenhall (born 1956) who was also known, in his early days as Nicky Chanel, vocal, guitarist.
Having left school at the age of fifteen I had already several years of experience playing the guitar and singing. Performing as a cabaret act in social clubs mainly in Wales and the West Country under the name of Nicky Chanel. My dream at that time was to get a recording contract.
At fifteen I was lucky enough to appear on HTV West with Don Moss and over the next few years work with Hughie Green, Ken Dodd, The Searchers and Billy Fury, but a record deal seemed impossible to achieve in this country.
In 1974 I was performing in Torquay where I met a German girl on holiday called Heidi Radnitz. I fancied her like mad and her family were very kind. She contacted several record companies in Germany on my behalf and got me an audition with CBS in Frankfurt.
In 1975 I released a single with April Musik and CBS which was produced by Roland Schneider.
Heidi and I stayed with Roland Schneider in Lorsbach near Hofheim and we also stayed in a flat in the grounds of Schloss Ziegenberg, just outside of Bad Nauheim."
I have many fond memories of that time but unfortunately the single was not successful so it was back to England and back to the drawing board.
Nick is now an instrumental music teacher and performs wedding music with his wife Kelly.
Nick and Kelly regularly play the music for civil weddings and he runs a tomato growing website.

Nicky Chanel heisst also bürgerlich Nick Chenhall. Er ist 1956 geboren. Er trat als Teenager in Klubs im Westen Englands als Nicky Chanel auf und war einige Male in lokalen TV-Sendungen zu Gast. 1974 traf er ein deutsches Mädchen, das in England auf Urlaub war. Er schwärmte für die junge Frau, die ihm in Deutschland einen Plattenvertrag bei CBS verschaffte. Da die Single nicht erfolgreich war, ging er zurück in die Heimat.
Chenhall tritt heute noch mit seiner Frau im Duo auf und ist begeisterter Tomatenzüchter.
